Joomla 1.6 first, THEN t-shirts

From time to time, I head to the official Joomla website, to see what’s going on in Joomla world.  In 99% of the cases, I leave the website dissapointed because their ‘news coverage’ is kind of meh.  Who wants to read long, boring blog posts about someone bitching about people bitching?  Not me, that’s who?

Anyhow, on my latest trip to Joomla City, I noticed something odd.  Joomla 1.6 promotion t-shirts where up for sale!  I immediatly checked around to see if Joomla 1.6 was readily available – yes, there’s the beta, I know – but it wasn’t.  There’s some vague release date – somewhere in July, depending on how much help we get – and that’s it.

Which leads to the following question.  Who, in his right mind, is stupid enough to walk around in a t-shirt, promoting a product that’s not available, and – for all we know – won’t be available for another 2 or 3 months?  You might end up hating the product when it finally releases.  Hey, it happens.  There’s plenty of idiots people out there still using Joomla 1.0.X because they didn’t like 1.5.x.  Just sayin’.

Anyway, that might just be ‘annoyance talk’ because joomla.org updates annoy me.  One of the glorious gems was posted about by Brian Teeman, co-founder of Joomla.  In this blog post, the Joomla guru points out that the comment function has been removed from Joomla 1.6.  Big deal, right?  Joomla is already awesome enough as it is.  But when visiting the Joomla.org site, I visited the “features” page.  And, amongst ACL and nested categories, it said ‘COMMENTING’ in big red letters.  Okay, just plain black letters, mayhaps.

The point of this post, I guess, is that I believe that some websites REALLY need to update their stuff regularly…
