How Managers can change their password (and more) in Joomla’s backend

Today, I wanted to explain a client to change his password. But since there was no login module on the front page, and he was only a “manager” (and couldn’t open the User Manager) I thought I was out of options.

Cue the embarrassing moment where I discovered an option in Joomla 2.5 and higher that allows users to edit their profile in the back-end, that’s been there forever. Of course it also allows them to change their password (otherwise, why mention it, right).

For Joomla 2.5

In Joomla 2.5 click “Website” in the top left folder, then click “My Profile”. You end up on your profile page where you can edit your password and more.

Click "Site" in the top left folder, then choose "My Profile"
Click “Site” in the top left folder, then choose “My Profile”

For Joomla 3.x

In Joomla 3.x first you’ll need to click at the right corner, on your user name, then click “Edit Profile”. You’ll be shown the profile screen where, once again, you can change your password and other options yourself.

Click your username in the right corner, then "Edit Profile"
Click your username in the right corner, then “Edit Profile”
