Thunderbird add-on: Folderpane Tools

Software & Tools / By Steven Zeegers / 2 February 2010 2 February 2010

thunderbird-logo-64x64 If you are working with Thunderbird, the popular open source mail client, you might have noticed that you can’t order your mail account by default.  The first account you create will be on top; the second will be below that one etc. etc.  I realize that this probably doesn’t bother many people.  But because I have a whopping 10 e-mail accounts in Thunderbird at work – 5 professional and 5 private account connected to Gmail – I really needed a way to sort them.

The solution

The solution comes in the form of “Folderpane Tools”.  This add-on has one purpose, really:  allowing you to sort your mail accounts.

Using the add-on is simple.

  • In Thunderbird, open your add-ons.
  • Find “Folderpane Tools”, and click options.
  • Sort the accounts as you see fit.
  • Restart Thunderbird.

As always, keep checking my blog for more interesting tips and suggestions!

P.S I just noticed something funny:  I’m using three different mail clients.  At home, I’m using Windows Live on my PC, Entourage on my Mac and Thunderbird on my lappy.  How’s that for not being biased?
